Closing shop

As the Maymester has now wound-down, I'll be posting rather infrequently here.

But ... we have a UGA Photojournalism blog that bleeds over into multimedia, graphics, education and journalism, so you can always check in there for new stuff. (There's a good link to increasing your productivity today, worth taking a look at.)

Thanks, hope this course helped you grow as a visual communicator.

Graphics to Explain Hip Hop

Thank goodness, because I, well, just don't get it.

Anyway, the Village Voice has an article online that's subtitled "A graphical dissertation on the number one song in America." Apparently, a guy named Mims has a song called "This Is Why I'm Hot," and now the Voice has explained - in nice diagrams and charts - how to tell if you are, too.

I, alas, am not.

Ban Comic Sans - and Good Comic Fonts

Last week, I mentioned there was a movement to ban Comic Sans, perhaps the worst typeface ever. (Though there's an argument Shotgun is even uglier.) There's an online petition to get it banned and stop its spread.

That said ... if you're shopping for typefaces (yes, you do have to pay for good typefaces), check out Comic Book Fonts for a great selection of Marvel and DC style typefaces. There's some nice stuf in the Masters of Comic Book Art Fonts section and I'm particularly fond of Monologous.

Death by PowerPoint

Graphpaper.com has a good summation/tip sheet on using PowerPoint for presentations. (Personally, I vastly prefer Apple's Keynote, but it's the same issues.)
