Animated Editorial Cartoon

Flash Goddess Mindy McAdams pointed me towards this: The Detroit Free Press has posted an animated editorial cartoon. All done in Flash, they put it together in one day.

Thoughts?

That's pretty impressive considering it was pieced together and posted online for viewing within a single day. That's the nice thing about technology though. Once you work your way past the initial learning curve, you can often crank out new content in no time at all. And with this example, relevancy is key, so in order for people to actually understand and appreciate the joke/issue at play, there cannot be any latency between the event upon which the piece is based and the publishing of the final product. That has always been the essence of a solid editorial cartoon, and this video proves that the web might just be a more suitable domain for these works, especially when you consider how much the addition of a single element, such as original music, adds to the humor of it all. A nice example of something traditionally reserved for a single medium making its way over into multimedia territory...

I thought it was good for a 24 hour effort... with that said, I was cringing at the sound quality and corniness of the song. Almost looked like a lame animation that you would get forwarded from your aunt who thought it was hilarious enough to send to every single person in her address book.
